Goal for Closing the Gap
School counseling program goals define how the vision and mission will be accomplished. They are the basis of the core curriculum, small group, and closing the gap lesson and action plans.
The goals promote achievement, attendance, and behavior.
Closing the Gap goals relate to an area where some demographic group (such as race, income, gender, etc.) has less success. The Closing the Gap Goal should be designed to close the gap between that group and the other groups.
The Core Curriculum and Small Group goals will target students by academic and behavior data-identified needs, such as below grade level. This goal should look at evidence in the data of opportunity or service gaps. For example, are there a lot of high scoring low-income students who do not take rigorous courses? Are there top scoring low-income students not applying for college? If so, you can create a goal around these data.
The Closing the Gap goals should address whole school, whole grade, or some other large group.
